Working with Authors


Since 2012 we've been working with authors to get them noticed under our parent company Upon A Star Books Inc! We thought it was time that we spread our wings, and fly under the name Jessica Alex Marketing - named after the CEO & Founder, Jessica Alex. 

We pride ourselves on giving our clients a customized experience. From running social media campaigns, planning events, graphic design and booking media interviews, we've got our authors covered and at an affordable price.


With us an author can get the attention they deserve and get their names out on various platforms for a fraction of the cost that the 'big guys' charge. We also do consultations, offering both great marketing ideas and answering questions about publishing and marketing.

Just over a year later, we decided to expand and work with entrepreneurs and small business owners because, well, we love small businesses! (After all as they say, it takes one to know one.)


Jessica Alex founded Upon A Star Books Inc. when she decided to publish her own children’s book, What If the World Had No Colour? From there, Upon A Star Books Inc. quickly grew into a company that offers publishing and marketing services for authors. Jessica took the “concierge” approach; as an author herself she knows the stresses of trying to publish and market one’s book. With a BA from Concordia University, and a Marketing Certificate from George Brown College, she takes a customized and hands-on approach with each client that she works with, and constantly finds ways to think outside the box!






Since 2016, Brooke Dixon has been successfully helping small businesses and entrepreneurs create a visually appealing online presence. Her specialty now includes live-streaming services to help clients build engagement, sales, and brand awareness utilizing the secrets of live-streaming. Brooke is a certified Social Media Manager with a background in business management and marketing which helps to implement strategies specifically related to each brand.

Jennifer Foster

Longing to express your message in a clear, compelling way? Eager to engage readers with impeccably polished prose? Enter the copy editor. Copy editing is an essential step in the publication process, focusing on spelling, style, grammar, punctuation, fact-checking and formatting. You can’t put your best text forward without a professional copy editor. 


Our in-house copy editor, Jennifer D. Foster, has more than 20 years’ experience working with words. Her clients range from marketing and communications to book and custom publishing. Through her company, Planet Word, she polishes prose for the likes of The Globe and Mail, Art Gallery of Ontario, Canadian Children’s Book News, Firefly Books, Dundurn Press and McMichael Canadian Art Collection.

Sion Tadesse-Brown

Sion Tadesse-Brown is a wife and mom of two boys. She is currently an Executive Assistant to Jessica Alex of Jessica Alex Marketing. During her college career at George Brown College, she studied both Hospitality and Architectural Technology. There, she learned the skills to manage time, communicate effectively, and be a problem solver. When she is not chasing after her boys, she enjoys planning their birthday parties and binging on Netflix shows.


Lisa Day is lover of all things books and is passionate about promoting the authors that create them. Day excels at finding authors' stories and promoting and sharing it with the media in new ways.
