I’ve curated a list of content marketing quotes to inspire you, and get your creative juices flowing. Here are 11 quotes that I have shared on Instagram, and will help you with your content marketing strategy, no matter what stage you’re at.

1. "The essence of strategy is choosing what not to do." — Michael Porter

I started off with this quote because you have to work on creating a strategy before you begin marketing your business. Part of your strategy is figuring out where your target audience is, and what is the best way to reach them. And while you are planning, remember that you don’t have to be everywhere and do everything, less is more, quality is better than quantity.

2. "Marketing is really about sharing your passion." — Michael Hyatt

Don’t be afraid to show people your “why.” Have you ever bought a product because you connected with the company’s mandate, or the founder was so passionate about what they were doing, that you bought in? Put yourself in your customer’s shoes. Think like your customer. If passion resonates with you when you are the consumer, share your passion through your business as well.

3."Starting and being consistent and not giving up is more important than being brilliant." — Mark Schaefer

Showing up is half the battle. Probably more than half the battle to be honest. Putting your content out there may seem scary at times; how will people receive it? What if they don’t receive it at all (crickets, anyone)? The truth is, sometimes you won’t get the reception you are looking for, but one of the keys is to keep going. Keep putting out great content, content that should resonate with your target audience, and eventually through your consistency, people will catch on. You may not get the results that you are expecting overnight, but be patient.

4. "An awful lot of storytelling isn’t really about making people understand — it’s about making people care." — Steven Moffat

When creating content, don’t forget to put your storytelling hat on. Why should people care about the content that you are producing? Being a storyteller can help to draw your audience in — after all, who doesn’t love a good story?

5. "Marketing is telling the world you’re a rock star. Content Marketing is showing the world you are one." — Robert Rose

To be more specific, traditional marketing methods such as advertising and direct mail marketing would tell consumers about products. For instance, “this product is great, this product is $10.99, this product will change your life.” However, times have changed. How is this product going to change my life? If this product will change my life, forget $10.99, I will buy it for $1099.99. That’s a big price jump, but you get the idea. Show me why this product is great? This is where tools such as storytelling come in handy.

6. "If you love what you’re doing...that will make it so much easier to actually sit down and create content, inspire, entertain, and educate. That’s what’s really important." — Jeff Bullas

Creating fresh, new content isn’t always easy, but what makes it easier is if you love what you do. If you believe in your products and your business, it makes it easier to find inspiration and create your content.

7. "Content is the atomic particle of all digital marketing." — Rebecca Lieb

Effective digital marketing (whether it’s social media, blogging etc.), needs the creation of great content (i.e. content marketing). Don’t underestimate the value of putting out great content.

8. "One thing is certain: if you don’t keep an editorial/content calendar, the content doesn’t get done." — Joe Pulizzi

Planning ahead is going to make a big difference in producing your content. Keeping a content calendar can help relieve the stress of having to think of what to put out last minute. You can take a moment to brainstorm, plan and create, even up to a month (or more) in advance, allowing you to stay on track and remain consistent.

9. "Content marketing is really like a first date. If all you do is talk about yourself there won’t be a second date." — David Beebe

This is key. Sometimes businesses use content marketing to push their sales initiatives more than to produce content that their target audience will enjoy. Every newsletter, blog post, Instagram post, is about their product and how much it’s on sale for. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with letting your consumers know about your products and its pricing, however effective content marketing is about creating content that entertains, inspires or educates your audience.

10. "Content builds relationships. Relationships are built on trust. Trust drives revenue." — Andrew Davis

When you create valuable content for your audience, you will eventually see the results. Consumers will be more willing to buy from you when they trust you. And building trust and showing value can help to create a loyal following and customer base, especially when people are tired of being “sold to” all the time.

11. "Content marketing is more than a buzzword. It is the hottest trend in marketing because it is the biggest gap between what buyers want and brand produce." — Michael Brenner

Creating engaging content is such a big part of today’s marketing strategy. I would venture to say that content marketing is no longer a “trend” but rather a staple in marketing strategies. When you give your audience what they want and need, they are more likely to stick around. Think about it, no matter what your business is, you are in the business of giving your consumers what they need.

Whether you are just starting a business and looking at various ways to market your product or service, or you have your content marketing strategy in place, but just needed a little boost, I hope these quotes provided you with the inspiration that you needed to get going and keep going. Look at the best mediums to reach your audience, provide them with the content they want, and remain consistent.
